Nigerian pilot set to be the first African to fly around the world alone

A Nigerian pilot named Ademilola Odujinrin is set to make history as the first African to fly around the world alone. This historical journey will happen in April according to Demilola who said he's put everything in place to ensure a hitch-free journey. He said his solo expedition will begin in Lagos and take him round the 7 continents of the world. It will take 6 weeks to complete and he will end his journey in Lagos sometime in May.

“The project aims to inspire Nigeria’s teeming population to begin to conceive a world without borders with unbridled dreams to transform the Nigerian narrative while shattering all stereotypes. The planned solo expedition will be achieved flying the aircraft, Cirrus SR22. It has a total payload of about 439kg. This particular aircraft with registration number N313CD has been specifically modified for this journey with additional long-range tanks and a HF radio installed for longer stretches of the journey,’’ he said.

Demilola said he's currently undergoing physical and psychological training to prepare him for the challenges of operating a flight without any assistance for six weeks. The operation will cost about a million dollars according to Transcend project, who are supporting the project.

Nigerian Dad Beats Son To Death In Dubai, To Be Deported After 10-Year Jail Term

A Nigerian father who was convicted of beating his 12-year-old son to death for not doing homework, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail.

ZA, 37, will be deported after serving his sentence.

The man rushed his son’s body to hospital one day in April last year telling doctors that he had given his son milk and the boy took ill after that, complaining of stomach pain and vomiting.

Meanwhile, the boy’s private tuition teacher, Pakistani, 52-year-old GI, claimed that she had seen bruises on the boy’s face and body several times.

She said that the boy first evaded her questions but later revealed that his dad beats him and added that one day the boy pleaded with her to help him in a subject that she did not teach him. The boy claimed that if she did not help him solve the math, his dad would beat him, the teacher testified.

The boy’s situation was discussed at a school meeting and the father was summoned. He, however, told the supervisor that he wanted his son to excel in his studies because he spend all his money on his education.

The security guard at the building also testified that he had one day heard screams and on checking found the man pushing his son underwater. When he intervened, the man allegedly dismissed him saying he was teaching his son swimming.

CCTV footages revealed the dad taking the boy to swimming pool when no one was there and he had a stick with him.

The watchman also recalled seeing bruises on the boy and one day he caught the boy with a swollen forehead.

The father confessed to police that he beat up his son with a wooden stick or shoes or punched him. Allegedly on April 18, the father received an email from the school about his son’s low performance.

“I punished him and prevented him from going out. I asked him to stay at home and do his homework. He was being careless, so I slapped him in the face, but he continued drawing in his book.

I got angry and beat him up and then again asked him to do his homework. Then I gave him milk and asked him to continue doing his homework. However, he started vomiting, and told me that he had stomach pain,” the man told police.

“While I was in the kitchen, I heard a sound. On looking I found my son on the floor. I took him to the bathroom and then asked him to clean up. But again in the bathroom he fell down. So I took him to hospital,” the father added.

He said he took the boy to hospital at 10.30pm but records show the boy was in hospital only around midnight. He was declared dead on arrival at hospital.

DNA tests reveal that the boy was not his biological son.

Police found blood vomit at home. They also found an iPad that the boy used, through which he had sought help online. A sentence reading, “Help, I got hit on my stomach,” was found on the iPad.

Post-mortem revealed that the boy died due to internal bleeding. His intestines were also damaged.

The man had denied the charges of pre-meditated murder. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail, after which he will be deported.

Family of cancer patient Paul Arisa deny that Abia State Govt is flying him abroad for treatment

The family of cancer patient Paul Arisa have denied reports sent out yesterday that the Abia state governor have pledged to take up his medical treatment and fly him abroad for surgery.

They say the governor only donated N1million to Paul and nothing more..and that only N400k out of the promised N1m was given to them. The family is still seeking help from well meaning Nigerians. They are currently working on Paul's papers to fly him to India for surgery.

Metuh named Jonathan in torn statement - EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today said the spokesperson of PDP Olisa Metuh, named former President Goodluck Jonathan in the statement he allegedly tore while in custody on January 12th. At the resumed hearing of the case against Metuh at the Abuja High Court, a staff of the antigraft agency, Junaid Said, said Metuh admitted that he received N400 million arms money, which was used for political activities, his personal needs, and assignments delegated by Jonathan.

“My Lord, when he concluded writing his statement, which was on four sheets of the EFCC statement form, I collected the statement and read over it, I then handed the statement over to my superiors Musa and Wetkas. When I was handing over the statement, the defendant said he was surprised that he had written that much and that he felt he had given too much information. Because of the comment, I was worried; I gave him the statement sheets one after the other for endorsement. He endorsed the first and second sheet, but he tore the third sheet. The third sheet was where the defendant disclosed that he received the money for PDP political activities, settle his personal needs and made reference to former President Goodluck Jonathan. My lord, he suddenly tore the statement sheet into pieces. In great shock and surprise, I stood up [and] I asked him why he did what he did. He said he did that because he was no longer willing to give the information on that statement sheet. I then requested the pieces of the statement, he declined and attempted to put them in his pocket, I then cautioned him and told him to respect himself; he insisted that he was going to dispose the torn sheet. I persuaded him to handover the tore sheet and brought one plain paper before him; he poured the pieces on the plain sheet. My other colleagues were there looking at us in surprise as well. “He further tore them into pieces, saying only in the movies would this be recovered. I poured the pieces in the commission’s transparent polythene bag for exhibit and made entry of the incident into the EFCC’s incident duty station diary as well as EFCC’s pocket notebook. Later, in the day he requested to make additional statement, which he made, wrote his name and signed but declined to make any other statement on the torn paper.”he said

House of Reps to investigate alleged NAPIMS $260m Oil Contract

The House of Representatives yesterday Feb. 24th directed its Committees on Petroleum Upstream and Public Procurement to investigate an alleged $260 million dollars oil contract awarded by the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

This directive followed a debate on a motion raised by Rep. Gabriel Kolawole (Akoko South East/South West Federal Constituency, Ondo State  – APC). Hon Kolawole said that NAPIMS, granted approval for Esso Explora­tion, a subsidiary of Exxon Mobile to award four single source contracts for projects in Exxon Mobil’s Usan Deep water project at the total sum of $260 mil­lion without a tendering process. 

Thye further ex­plained that NAPIMS had, through three mem­oranda dated October 13, 2014, February 10, 2015 and April 16, 2015, single handedly nomi­nated four companies to execute the contracts  without approval from both the Board of the NNPC and its Group Executive Committee (GEC). 

The joint committees have been given a period of 4 weeks to investigate the matter and report back to the House.

We the Peoples’ Democratic Party
ministers from 1999-2015
(hereinafter refered to as ‘The
Forum’) met on Tuesday, 23rd
February, 2016 in Abuja and
deliberated on recent developments
in the party among other issues.
The forum reiterates and affirms
our commitment to the ideals and
core values of the founding
principles of our great party.

Having considered the decision of
the National Executive Committee
of PDP in the last executive
Committee meeting of Tuesday 16th
February, 2016, the forum resolves
as follows:

1. The forum rejects Alhaji Ali
Modu Sheriff as National Chairman
of the PDP due to the illegitimacy of
the process that purportedly
brought him in.

2. The forum commends and
supports the stand of the Board of
Trustees of the Party for their
rejection of the imposition of Alhaji
Ali Modu Sheriff for lack of
transparency and internal
democracy in the process.

3. The forum calls for the conduct
of congresses at all levels of the
party, leading to a National
convention that should be held
before the 28th of March, 2016 to
return power to the people in
tandem with the constitution of our
Party and as encapsulated in our
party’s motto: “Power to the
People”.

4. The forum condemns all acts of
impunity in the running of the
affairs of the party, at all levels and
implores all members to respect the
constitution of the party and that of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

5. The forum further resolves to
continue consultations with
relevant stakeholder groups with a
view to solving the present
challenges and strengthening our
party.

6. The forum noted with dismay the
threat on one of its members, Chief

Why I Won’t Support Buhari’s War Against Corruption – Wike

Rivers state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has claimed that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was biased in its fight against corruption, stressing that he would rather fight corruption his own way than support the anti-graft campaign of the current administration.

The Governor made this assertion on Sunday during a thanksgiving service in celebration of his victory at the Supreme Court.

According to him, “We would not support the fight against corruption. People took our money from the state, and we wrote to the police asking them to go and make a statement; nothing has come out of it.

“We won’t take anybody to the EFCC because I know what would happen. We know how to fight our own way. We won’t support that war against corruption that they are doing.”

Wike, who disclosed that he would have given up if the verdict did not end in his favour, noted that bloodshed was prevented in the state through the ruling of the apex court, asserting that, “blood would have flown if the election was going to hold again.”

Hear him, “So, I called some people, including the chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, that I was not going to run again. They said why and I explained that if I did, many people would die.

“I pray that my enemy should continue to have permanent high blood pressure. I wouldn’t pray that God will heal them. My own has come down now, and for several months it was high. It is time for their own to rise.”

Female Fan Gets Tattoo Of Dancehall Singer Burna Boy’s Name On Her Body -

Nigerian dancehall star Burna Boy has joined the league of celebrities with super fans.

The Spaceship Entertainment boss shared a picture on Sunday, February 7, 2016 of a female fan, who inked his name on her arm.

The fan, with the Instagram name Judy Africaa, shared the picture in the early hours of Sunday, February 7, 2016 after which the dancehall star reposted on his official Instagram page.

‘Am obsessed with Burma boy #burnaboygram tattooed his name,’ she had captioned the picture.

‘@judy_africaa1 got my name tatted on her wrist. My real fans are the people I live for. #OAS #1715 #martellVIC” Burna Boy wrote as the caption of the picture.

Fans getting tattoos of Nigerian pop stars is slowly on the rise. In June 2014, a fan of pop singer Sean Tizzle tattooed the artistes name on his wrist.

Photo:- Chinese Boss Cuts Off Nigerian Worker’s Finger In Cross River

A Chinese worker, identified as Njaga Chang, has cut off one of the right fingers of his Nigerian colleague at the Xin Xin Quarry in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The 23-year-old Nigerian victim, Nsikak Tommy, was said to have incurred the wrath of the Chinese for failing to quickly turn on the generator at the quarry site.

Chang was said to have initially attacked Tommy with a water hose but later resorted to the use of machete when the victim took to his heels.

Narrating the incident to Southern City News on Sunday, an eyewitness, Ene Bassey, said the

Chinese was quickly taken away to an unknown destination in Calabar after the incident happened.

“The incident happened at about 4.30 pm on Saturday. The Chinese man was angered by the Nigerian’s slow response when he was told to turn on a generator at the quarry. Chang had initially started with insults on the Nigerian, but later attacked Nsikak Tommy with a water hose.

But as Tommy tried to escape from the assault, Chang chased him with a machete. He first deflated the tyres of Tommy’s motorcycle to prevent him from fleeing and tried to cut his head. Instinctively, Tommy raised his hand to block the cut aimed at his head. In the process, the machete cut off one of his fingers. He was left in a pool of blood as he cried for help.

After the incident, owners of the Xin Xin Quarry, who also own two other quarries in Akamkpa known as Expanded and Fughou Quarries, rather than attend to the injured man, ferried the Chinese man to Calabar and had him hidden.

It was Tommy’s fellow Nigerian workers at the quarry that managed to take him for treatment at the Bakor Medical Centre in Calabar,” Bassey said.

Southern City News learnt that the police in Akamkpa arrested and later released Chang on bail.

Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Eluu, said he got confirmation from the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Akamkpa division that Chang was arrested but released on bail after they had agreed to settle the matter.

Eluu said:-

“Yes, I got confirmation from the DPO that the Chinese national was arrested and taken to Akamkpa, but was later released on bail. They agreed to settle the matter amicably amongst themselves.”

Etisalat Nigeria has sued MTN Nigeria and Visafone Ltd, challenging MTN’s use of the 800megahertz (MHZ) spectrum following the acquisition of Visafone.

Etisalat said it considered the action necessary to prevent the use of the spectrum by MTN at this time, as it will entrench the dominance of MTN in the retail data services market.

“You will recall that MTN Nigeria was declared dominant by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in 2013 and remains dominant in the wholesale leased line and retail voice markets.

The use of the 800MHz spectrum to deploy broadband services ahead of its competitors, particularly those who prior to MTNs purchase of Visafone, held similar spectrum bands as MTN, will further entrench MTN’s dominance in the Nigerian telecommunications sector,” Etisalat said in a statement confirmed by its Head of Media, Chineze Amanfo, yesterday.

The telco said it had, in addition to the legal action and in line with Section 86 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, engaged the NCC to understand the basis of its decision to approve the acquisition.

“As you are aware, the matter is already in court as such, we are restrained from commenting further on the matter,” the telco added.

MTN had sued the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) over the imposition of N780billion fine on it by the regulator for harbouring some 5.2million pre-registered subscriber identity module (SIM) cards on its network in violation of extant rules.

The Summary Of The Accident That Happened Yesterday Sunday January 7th 2016 , That Claimed the Life of 17 – 30 people , along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

17-30 people were killed in an automobile crash on Lagos-IbadanExpressway, the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, said on Sunday.

Yusuf Salami, the Oyo State Sector Commander of the commission, told the News Agency of Nigeria that 79 persons were injured in the crash.

Mr. Salami said that the accident, which involved an articulated vehicle and a Peugeot J5 bus, occurred at Sepo area of the highway.

Mr. Salami said the accident occurred due to impatience, over speeding and struggle for the right of way by both vehicles, which were travelling from Ibadan to Lagos.

“A Peugeot J5 with number plate XS 626 LSV and a DAF articulated vehicle with number plate AA 902 MML, crashed as both drivers were struggling for the right of the way.

“They were both going to Lagos when the accident happened at about 9.30 a.m. (on Sunday),’’ he said.

“There were 96 people involved with 17 confirmed dead; it is obvious that both drivers were over speeding and suddenly lost control of the vehicles.

“The Peugeot bus was loaded with passengers and goods but the casualty figure rose because the other vehicle was travelling to Lagos with huge number of illegal passengers,’’ he said.

Mr. Salami said that the corpses had been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue in Ibadan, while the injured were taken to the University College Hospital, Ibadan Central Hospital and Kejide Hospital.

My Wife Is The First Woman I Slept With – Veteran Singer King Wadada Opens Up

Veteran Reggae artiste, King Wadada in an interview with Punch has revealed that he never knew a woman when he met his wife. According to him, his wife was the first person he slept with and she became pregnant just a month after they started having s3x. His wife also spoke about their marriage which is now 23years and how they met. Enjoy the interview.
How did you meet your wife?

Austin: We met at the outset of my music career at a studio in Lagos. I was there to record my first album, titled ‘Holy Holy’ and she was the lead back-up singer, for the late Sonny Okosuns. The first time we related closely was when I invited her to contribute to the background vocals for my debut album.

How did the relationship develop?

Austin: I was a struggling musician who also worked part-time at the domestic airport in Lagos and I was a cobbler at the same time; I was the first cobbler to operate under the bridge at Ikeja, Lagos. I funded my music career from the proceeds of my craft. I wanted to continue with the trade but thankfully, there were still record labels like Sony and EMI who were willing to promote budding artistes.
Was your wife in the know?

Austin: No, she never really knew that I repaired shoes because whenever I made some money from my occupation as a cobbler, I would rush to the studio where we met regularly to record. We rarely met outside of the studio.

Why did you not rethink the relationship when you discovered he was a cobbler?

Evelyn: I call it destiny. I am not carried away with wealth and I believe in struggling with my partner until we hit it big. I have never been attracted to rich men all my life.

Austin: She was comfortable with the fact that I was a cobbler because she had already experienced my music talent. We met in 1993 and we got married almost a month after we met.

Why did you get married soon after you met?

Austin: I impregnated her. I was not obliged to marry her because she was pregnant but we had both decided to spend the rest of our lives together.

What attracted you to your spouse?

Austin: She was also very talented and exposed; she had travelled round the world performing as a back-up artiste for established musicians. She is still my back-up singer but she no longer accompanies me to shows because she has to take care of the home and the children. However, whenever we have to perform at very big concerts, she performs with me.

Evelyn: He has always been a hustler and is still one. He is also a hard-working man who is devoted to his craft.

How does it feel working with your spouse?

Evelyn: We keep it professional whenever we are at work and when we are home, we can be a lovey-dovey couple.

At what point did you realise that you were meant for each other?

Austin: I was a Rastafarian and a vegetarian when we met. As such, I had not eaten any meal prepared by a woman and I hadn’t had sexual relations with any woman for four years preceding the time we met. She was the first woman I had ever been with and when I met her, I broke my vow to remain celibate. When she told me she was pregnant, I was worried that I had given in to temptation but I considered it to be the will of God. We decided she would have the baby and he was named Wisdom.

Evelyn: He lived with his friend and didn’t have any woman in his life. They were both Rastafarians and vegetarians. I wasn’t sacred or worried about that aspect of his life because I believed he had a reason for being the way he was. I was comfortable with it. That was what mattered to me.

Did you have the support of your family?

Evelyn: I come from a family that loves music, so our marriage was a welcome development.

Austin: My family was supportive of our relationship and marriage.

If you could change anything about your spouse, what would it be?

Evelyn: I don’t think I would love to change anything about him because I love him the way he is.

Austin: My wife is perfect just the way she is and that is a major reason why I cant marry another woman. We have been blessed with three children and they are doing well.
