Nigerian Fashion Editor Dimeji Alara Goes Hollywood

Paris-born, Nigerian fashion editor and stylist Dimeji Alara has been asked to join the American and South African co-production of ‘The Blue Mauritius.’ An action packed, international heist film in the vein of ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ and ‘The Italian Job.’ The film’s production is set to begin in August 2016 in Cape Town, with other locations to include London, Berlin, Tokyo and Paris.

‘The Blue Mauritius’ is about five international thieves hired by a mysterious person from Mauritius to steal the most valuable stamps in the world that leads them to a treasure on the island. Mr. Alara was brought on board the production to style it’s very international cast, which includes actors from Germany, Brazil, France, England, South Africa, Egypt and the United States.  His mandate is to bring in designers from the continent to give the film a more authentic feel and to showcase some of Africa’s most celebrated designers and rising stars in fashion.

“We are thrilled to have Dimeji join the production, says Dexter Davis, the film’s New York-based executive producer and CEO of D Street Media Group. This movie is hopefully something new for Africa. We wanted to make a truly African film with an international cast and not just a movie shot on location in Africa. Our goal is to make African films that can travel and hopefully by bringing our American sensibility to the story and production value, we give these sort of films the opportunity to play well in the U.S. and around the world. We could not have made a better pick than Dimeji Alara as the stylist, his keen sense of style and his experience in the fashion industry is indispensable. We look forward to a long and fruitful working relationship.”

Mr. Alara has jumped right in and has chosen Nigerian designer Amaka Osakwe of Maki Oh to work with him on the production. Osakwe is no stranger to Hollywood; her clothes has adorned the backs of international stars such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Kerry Washington of ‘Scandal’ fame and of course the U.S. First Lady, Michelle Obama to name a few.
“It’s so exciting to be given the opportunity to express my creativity in a medium that is synonymous with fashion, says Alara. When the producers asked me to get involved, it was very intriguing. However, I wasn’t quite sure I was up for it, but after reading the script and understanding the significance of a project like this in Africa I could not say no. I’m very blessed to be given the opportunity to have the freedom to bring African elements to the film and can’t wait to show the world what African style looks like.”
‘The Blue Mauritius’ is also executive produced by American actor, rapper, television personality and media mogul Nick Cannon (America’s Got Talent, Chi-Raq) and producers Tim Theron and Cobus van den Berg of Kaapland Films in South Africa. The film will be directed by British director Charles Henri Belleville, who’s wrapping up his second collaboration with Oscar-nominated British actor Tom Hardy (Revenant, Mad Max).

UNILAG SUG President Arrested As Students Vacate School After Total Shutdown (Photos)

Following an order by the authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) closing down the campus earlier today, students are now vacating the campus.

President of the Student Union Government (SUG) of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Mohammed Olaniyan, has been reportedly arrested on Thursday by security operatives following the protest by students.

The school’s management issued a directive that all students vacate the halls of residence before 10:00am on Friday. However, the students decided to disregard the directive with the student union locking the halls of residence, thus preventing the exit of any student.

They clamoured for the presence of Olaniyan whom they referred to as their ‘school father’, as they waited till 9:30pm on Thursday for Rahmon Ade Bello, vice chancellor of the university, to address them, but the address didn’t happen.

Vehicles of the Lagos state Rapid Response Squad were at the university premises but no other arrest was made. Olaniyan himself was released after a few hours as the opinion of some students of the university is that the management wants to push them to violence.

Meanwhile, following an order by the authorities of the school closing down the campus earlier today, students are now vacating the campus as the gate of the university has been taken over by heavily armed policemen, who are supervising the students’ movement out of the campus.

It can be recalled that UNILAG’s management ordered the indefinite closure of the school earlier today, stating that students’ protest border on a national situation which the management cannot address internally. The administration added that the school will reopen once fuel scarcity situation becomes normal in Nigeria.

This is an indefinite shutdown.. Who know when Fuel scarcity go end?

Population density; the number of people living per unit of an area (e.g. per square mile); the number of people relative to the space occupied by them.

Population density describes the number of people living in a given area. It is calculated as follows:
Population Density = Number Of People In an Area / Size of Area.

It is a measurement of population per unit area or unit volume; it is a quantity of type number density. It is frequently applied to living organisms, and most of the time to humans. It's a key geographical term.

    (1ai)
Population density is the number of person per unit area of land or per square kilometre of land.

    (1aii)
Birth rate is the rate at which children are being given birth to in a country.

    (1aiii)
Optimum population is the number of people that can be supported by by the available resources in an area, so as to achieve the highest possible standard of living.

    (1b)
    (i) Increased birth rate
(ii) Prevention of rural to urban migration
    (iii) Improved health service provision
    (iv) Industrialisation

    (ii) Water transport
    (iii) Air transport
    (iv) Rail transport

    (2b)
    (i) Presence of water fall and cataracts limits the use of rivers
(ii) Presence of floating vegetation e.g water weed
(iii) Seasonality of most rivers is a problem
(iv) Water transport by inland navigation is too slow for people with perishable goods

    (2c)
    (i) Rivers should be dredged regularly
(ii) construction of canals to bye pass water falls and cataracts
(iii) Water weed should be equipped refrigerated holds

    (3a)
Conurbations may be broadly seen as having
    the following features:

    (3ai)
    A conurbation is a continuously built-up
area but it does not include ribbon
development. It also does not necessarily
    exclude a built-up area separated by a
narrow rural land from the main built-up
area to which it is well-attached.

    (3aii)
    A conurbation shows high population
density; its population is much greater than that of the nearby towns.

    (3aiii)
    A conurbation has various
    miscellaneous industries operating in it
which rely on the reserves of labour,
    excellent transport, etc

    SECTION 2

    (4c)
    1. Once a dam is constructed, electricity can be produced at a constant rate.

    2. If electricity is not needed, the sluice gates can be shut, stopping electricity generation.

The water can be saved for use another time when electricity demand is high.

    3. Dams are designed to last many decades and so can contribute to the generation of electricity for many years / decades.

    4. The lake that forms behind the dam can be used for water sports and leisure / pleasure activities. Often large dams become tourist attractions in their own right.

    5. The lake's water can be used for irrigation purposes.

    6. The build up of water in the lake means that energy can be stored until needed, when the water is released to produce electricity.

    7. When in use, electricity produced by dam systems do not produce green house gases. They do not pollute the atmosphere.

    (5a)

    - Heavy tax placed on the industrialist mitigate against the sucesses of it existence

    - Lack of motorable roads for the smooth conveyance of industrial goods from production sport to market has hampard industrialization

    - Epileptic power supply which makes the industrilization to resort to using costly energy has hampard the program of industrialization

    (5c)
    - Government should ensure that the heavy tax rate levied against the industrialization are cut down

    - Motorable roads should be constructed across Nigeria roads to ease the smooth transportation of industrial goods

    - There should be alternative to hydro energy generated by the country to avoid over reliance on power

    - Government should avoid those policies that is repugnant to the setting up of industry in the country

Nii Kpakpo and Maa Tsuru are lovers in the novel (Faceless). Maa Tsuru is the mother of Fofo, Baby T and some other children.

She does not gave a stable relationship as she comes across men who impregnates her and dumps her afterwards.

Being a gullible woman, Maa Tsuru believes Nii Kwakpo without questioning.

She however regrets her relationship with the man later in the novelbas she realises her mistakes and gullibility.

Maa Tsuru began to feel for the pinch. She dropped a hint to kpakpo but either he did not get it or refused to get it.

Kwakpo succeeds in deceiving Maa Tsuru to part with her daughter, Baby T, only for Maa Tsuru to regret it later when Baby T is being gruesomely murdered.

(4)
The novel Lonely Days has its backdrop in pastoral setting.

It reflects the predicament of widows in African society (Nigeria to be specific).

The novel is a mirror of the quandary/dilemma of a Nigeria widow battling with either to uphold the status quo of levirate (a system of remarrying within family, or the practice by which a man may be required to marry his brother's widow).

In Nigeria's rustic society, even to some upholders of this tradition of levirate in urban society in Yorubaland, it is culturally acceptable for a widow after sometimes of mourning her deceased husband to 'pick a cap' ( remarrying to anew man) in the community.

The story is narrated through the plight of the protagonist, Yaremi, along with other characters who develop the plot structure of the novel.

Lonely Days is a novel used by Bayo Adebowale to question the notion of cultural imposition of levirate. The denial of the protagonist, Yaremi to pick a cap, by invariably living a solitary life adds credence to this cultural practice (levirate) as obsolete (old fashioned).

(6)
Max Boris: Max Boris is an idealistic lawyer with communist sympathies who
defends the protagonist Bigger Thomas but comes under attack himself because he is a communist and a Jew. More than any other character, he understands Bigger and forms a close relationship
with him.

(5)
Bigger Thomas as America’s Native Son In the novel the Native Son, the author Richard Wright explores racism and oppression in
American society. Wright skillfully merges his
narrative voice into Bigger Thomas so that the
reader can also feel how the pressure and racism affects the feelings, thoughts, self-image, and life of a Negro person.

Bigger is a tragic
product of American imperialism and exploitation
in a modern world.

Bigger embodies one of humankind’s greatest tragedies of how mass
oppression permeates all aspects of the lives of the oppressed and the oppressor, creating a
world of misunderstanding, ignorance, and suffering.

The novel is loaded with a plethora of imageries
of a hostile white world.

Wright shows how white
racism affects the behavior, feelings, and thoughts of Bigger.

“Everytime I think about it I feel like somebody’s poking a red-hot iron down my throat…We live here and they live there.

We black and they white.

They got things and we ain’t. They do things and we can’t…I feel like I’m on the outside the world peeping in through a knot-hole in the fence…” (20).

Bigger’s sense of constriction and of
confinement is very palpable to the reader.

Wright also uses a more articulate voice to accurately describe the oppressive conditions of a Negro person. An anonymous black cellmate, a university student cries out, ”You make us live in such crowded conditions… that one out of every ten of us is insane…you dump all stale foods into the Black Belt and sell
them for more than you can get anywhere else…
You tax us, but you wont build hospitals…the
schools are so crowded that they breed perverts…you hire us last and fire us
first…” (318)

Bigger’s sense of constriction by the white world is so strong that he has no doubt that “something awful’s going to happen to me…” (21).

Nowhere in this novel can the reader see a greater example of Bigger’s fear and sense of constriction than in the accidental death of Mary
Dalton.

The allen-compassing fear that the white world has bred in Bigger takes over when he is in Mary’s room and in danger of being discovered
by Mrs. Dalton.

This internalized social
oppression literally forces his hands to hold the pillow over Mary’s face, suffocating her.

Bigger believes that a white person would assume that he was in the room to rape the white girl.
Bigger’s violent reaction to fear is inevitable.

When a person finds all outlets of expression and
development either closed or severely constrained, like Bigger’s, violence is often the instinctive reaction to oppression.
